19th AugApplication of the rules of hockey for the 2019/20 season

Back in July England Hockey communicated how the changes published in the FIH Rules of Hockey 2019 will be applied and that these will come into effect for the start of the 2019/20 season. EH have confirmed that outside of the National League and Tier 1 competitions match timings will continue to be two 35 minute halves. All other 2019 rules changes will be adopted in full.

You can find a copy of the presentation made at the OHUA AGM summarising these changes on the Information and Downloads page. You can also download the FIH app or a PDF copy from the website.

Details of the EH announcement can be found by clicking on the link. Please familiarise yourself with these changes before the start of the season.

26th JulWeb Site Structure Changes

Some changes have been made to the structure of the web site.
Some of the pages that have traditionally been available to anyone have been moved to within the personal area. This further protects data from access by people with no genuine reason to access it.
The pages affected are the Committees Page, Umpire Contact Details Page(s), Membership Page, Umpire Panels Page and Umpire Awards Page.
In addition, the Club Page that is in the public area showing all the information about a club has been modified so that it no longer shows any contact information for individuals. There is a duplicate of the page accessible from within the personal areas, which does show contact details.

The changes mean that, with the exception of a very few key contacts for the association(s), no personal contact information is now available to the public - it is only available to people who are properly registered as umpires or registered by clubs as club administrators or team officials.
In the past, there have been three settings that people can use for protecting their contact information (Public, Private or Secret). Because of the changes the Public category is now only really relevant for a few key association contacts and a new Internal category has been added. Any contact information marked as Internal can only be seen by genuinely registered users of the web site.
If your contact information needs to be seen by people from other clubs even if you are not due to play against them, you should ensure that your privacy setting for the relevant contact information is Internal rather than Private.

19th JulEngland Hockey restructuring proposal

EH have published a proposal to restructure the game in England, following on from an AGM resolution. Please see this text from EH:

In March 2017 the membership overwhelmingly passed a resolution requiring England Hockey to review the structure of hockey in England in the first such review for a generation. The proposals, which have been developed over the last 2 years through previous phases of consultation, were outlined at a series of nationwide roadshows over the last few weeks. If you were unable to attend one of the roadshows, the presentation and supporting documents are now available on our website for you to review.

The proposals set out changes to leagues and associations to create a more equal, fair and simple structure for clubs and the roadshow audiences indicated their overwhelming support for the changes. Members will now get a chance to consult and feedback on the proposals through a survey which closes on 27 October. The England Hockey Board will consider the feedback in November and a final version, with a detailed implementation plan, will be put before the 2020 AGM. If approved, the new structure will be in place for the 2021-22 season.

Sally Munday, Chief Executive of England Hockey said of the proposals ”England Hockey has received a clear and strong message from clubs and volunteers that they want a structure for the sport that allows them to focus on playing hockey and spend less time on unnecessary administration. I’m delighted that these proposals have received such a positive response and I’d urge all members to consider the plans and let us know if they can be made even better. Clubs have asked for changes and after a lot of consultation we strongly believe these proposals address the issues they face so the vote at next year’s AGM will be the opportunity for them to make it happen”.

16th JulApplication of the rules of hockey in England for the 2019/20 season

EH have issued guidance about the rule changes coming for the season starting after the summer break.

Basically all the rule changes proposed by FIH are being adopted, with the exception of 15 minute quarters and the associated time stoppage at penalty corners. In the elite game quarters of 17.5 minutes will be played (with no time stoppages for penalty corners) - for everyone else (including the matches to which Berkshire HUA appoints) then we will remain with 35 minute halves and no time stoppages at penalty corners.
