16th FebJAC (County) Games Coming Up

The annual round of JAC games are coming up soon, beginning in mid-March. I will be posting fixtures soon.
Please can you make yourselves available for Sunday games.
These games are the showcase for the promising young players of the future, and we need to have umpires for all of these games, if possible.
The County gets fined and forfeits games if umpires are not appointed...please help

15th FebAdditional Sunday and Midweek Trysports matches

Due to weather postponements earlier in the season, teams are attempting to rearrange games to avoid overextending the season. Consequently there are now additional matches on Sundays and at least 1 midweek evening game.

If you think you can be available to umpire on any of these dates, please login into your personal area and adjust your availability for these extra dates in March (and possibly April).

As soon as you can please.

14th Dec (2017)Match cancellations

When a match is cancelled, by yourself as an umpire on the match day, or by the Home Club; please could you send an email entitled 'Match Cancelled', giving short details of Match, and reason for cancellation, and whether you travelled to the venue. Send the email to myself (Richard Bartlett:, Hils Farrar-Hockley or Clive Briant : if the match was for the leagues Ladies South Premier Division 3A or Trysports Premier 1 or Trysports Premier 2. All other matches please forward the cancellation notification email to Huw Richards (

For the claiming of travel expenses : The two scenarios are:

(1) If you travelled to the ground, and then the match was cancelled, you are entitled to full travel expenses - just indicate on your email (the one stating the game being cancelled) that this is what happened - then go into your personal area and claim milage as usual.

(2) If you are forewarned by the home Club of the cancellation - then indicate this in your email (the one stating the game being cancelled) that this is what happened - you then need do nothing in your personal area regarding mileage expenses. We on the administration side will take care of the details (what happens in short is the fixture's date is edited, this wipes out the appointed umpires, as if the fixture never happened).

Note: The same applies to the Umpire Coaches, Assessors and Watchers; appointed to fixtures which are cancelled.

Hope this helps.
Have a great, relaxing Christmas,
Richard Bartlett

5th Dec (2017)EH Code of Ethics and Behaviour

As we approach the season of goodwill to all men (and ladies, obviously) it seems appropriate to remind everyone of the various sections of the England Hockey Code of Ethics and Behaviour.

There is a General section, followed by specific sections for Players; young People; Clubs/Associations; Coaches/Managers; Spectators/Parents; Umpires and Officials; and Medical practitioners. The code is available at the link shown.

We should be aware of the requirements in each section and, in particular, be aware of and compliant with the sections relating to whichever role we are performing on a given day.
